[arsi'ni̯ɣas], Germán, kolumbianischer Schriftsteller, Politiker, Diplomat und Journalist, * Bogotá 6. 12. 1900, ✝ ebenda 30. 11. 1999; 1941-42 und 1945-46 Erziehungsminister; Berater der UNESCO und Professor für Literatur, u. a. an der Columbia University in New York. Verfasste ein umfangreiches essayistisches Werk über Kultur, Geschichte und Sozialstruktur Lateinamerikas, außerdem Romane und Biographien v. a. zu historischen und politischen Themen; gründete und leitete mehrere Zeitschriften.
 
Werke: Essays: Biografía del Caribe (1945; deutsch Karibische Rhapsodie); El continente de siete colores. (1965; deutsch Kulturgeschichte Lateinamerikas); Nueva imagen del Caribe (1970); El revés de la historia (1980); Bolívar y la revolución (1984).
